Mario Montes Photography 2022
The famous photographer and educator Minor White once said “one should not only photograph things for what they are but for what else they are.” I think this quote may sum up how I feel about my photography. Looking past the obvious, close observation, and engagement of a subject is my process. Whether I’m creating an image of a landscape, a cityscape, or a still life—showing the viewer that there is much more than the obvious has always been my intention from the beginning of my photographic journey.
Because I use photography as a means of self-expression, I create images for myself. My images attempt to create a feeling of beauty and calmness—which is why my work tends to have an uncluttered or minimalist quality to them. I believe photography has the power to influence our perception of the world around us building a sense of appreciation simply by taking the time to notice.
